Hello There!
For this year, i'm taking the year end with a little twist. For now i'll be embedding it to the site from my spotify playlist.
This may take a while in getting used to. The reason i switched to the spotify playlist is because well, most of the foreign tunes i listened to in 2017 can be found in spotify.
So without further adieu, same rules still applies:
1 track per artist
Can be in any language
Different genres (hence it's called mixtape)
MakeDamnSure by Taking Back Sunday
Opening up the playlist is an old track from Taking Back Sunday. Been blasting through my headphones while working and simply because of that sweet spot around the 3 minute mark.
Nobody Can Save me by Linkin Park
Perhaps one of the gems in the latest and last album of Linkin Park that features Chester on vocals. I have accepted the fact that indeed LP already is heading away from the Hybrid / Meteora days and it's not that bad at all (except for that damn recharged album). This track features soft beats with guitars in the middle and of course the lyrics that seems to be asking for help.
I guess Chester has been asking for help way before this track. Nevertheless, RIP Chester.
Sunshower by Chris Cornell
Another Great singer that the industry lost in 2017. An old track from the soundtrack of Great Expectations, It features the haunting voice of Chris. RIP as well Chris.
Helpless by John Mayer
Finally this man got his groove back. To be honest, i didn't like his past 2 country albums because simply it's not the John Mayer i have grown to listened to. And so i waited if he will be back to his own pop-ish groove
Fast forward to 2017 and after a series of instagram posts, album divided into ep's and i got what i wished for. Album stands out but this is the cream of the crop. Too bad the solo at the end part was fading out. Still, welcome back John!
Rapture by Tom Walker
Ahh suits. A haven of classy and fresh tunes. To be honest i just heard this track on the latest season of suits and got hooked. From the slow start then the hard part as the chorus starts and then back to it's mellow down tune as the second verse comes in. You should also check out his other works as well.
Always Summer by Yellowcard
I loved you first, i love you still i always will.
Ok now let's all get the blades and slash our wrists. An old track from Yellowcard and they can pull off a jolly tune with emotional lyrics. Hoping that they get to reunite again.
One Foot by Fun
Another band that comes out once every while. This song promotes equality and respect. Oh and in case you didn't know, they also sung we are young.
Panda by Desiigner
First of the few hiphop tracks on the playlist, This is a good song while simply driving and cruising down the streets. Panda.... panda panda panda....
Offended by Eminem
Eminem has a few off beat albums recently. To be honest the latest one simply hasn't hit that spot yet but then again, for every not-so-good album, there is that one track that shines. And this is it. This is the old Eminem that the listeners have been looking for.
That's what i like by Bruno Mars
i said it before and i'll say it again, Bruno Mars reminds me of Michael Jackson. I know it's too strong to pit them head to head but if there is someone who can come close to the king of pop, it has to be this guy. From his latest album 24K magic, this song can set the mood while driving, while relaxing, while getting down and while doing this blog.
Dat $tick by Rich Chigga
Looks can be deceiving and Rich Chigga is a perfect example of this saying. On first look, he's your average asian guy but damn his rapping skills are at par with the american rappers. And those beats, again those beats. Word.
My Hero by Man with a mission
I first heard this used as the opening song from Inuyashiki which by the way, one of the best short anime for 2017 and i recommend you to check it out. The band reminds me of Beat Crusaders but heavier. As i checked out their other songs, they are not bad at all. This band escaped my radar and i feel cheated on learning about them right only now. Go guys check them out.
Sparkle by Radwimps
Ahh Kimi no na wa. Also known as Your name in English is one of the great films from Makoto Shinkai. I had a hard time choosing on what track to choose from them on the soundtrack as most of the tracks in the album are all good but i have to pick only one and this came out on top. From the piano intro, the soft drums and bass and that sudden pause in the middle part is really good. If you can also listen to the movie version, the strings part of the track is pure goodness to the ear. Oh and yeah if you have already seen the film, you know where this track was used in the movie. Perfect right?
lvs(var) by Kensuke Ushio
Taken from the Koe no katachi soundtrack. It a short one but filled with emotions. I'd also recommend you also watch.
Hail to the chief by Prophets of Rage
Prophets of rage came around last year as a combination of 2 powerhouse groups namely members of Rage Against the Machine and Cypress Hill where the latter group was already experimenting in the rap-rock genre before. Go get the album and experience this strong force. Now, im still waiting for new materials from the original RATM.....
Wasting my time by Default
I wonder what happened to this band? They revolved back in my playlist this year probably because i remember the guitar solo or perhaps the grungy guitar distortions used. Someday, we can cover this track. But let's save it on another post shall we?
7th element by Vitas
And to end the 2017 mixtape, here's vitas. Yup, no trolling involved. This has been our tune while driving, while working, while partying. And yes, that tongue ability while in tune is a talent.
So there you have it, my 2017 foreign mixtape. Hope you enjoyed it.
Coming up will be the OPM playlist and my year ender post.
