2016 Local Mixtape

A few hours from now, we say goodbye to 2016. And yes, the annual mixtapes are still alive in the new blogpage. Here are a few local tunes that reminded me that the local music industry is alive and well:

Laro by Autotelic - Their full album was released this year and even though they already have gising and misteryoso climbing up the charts, this is the hidden gem of this album. Go get their album and it's every track worth it.

Bente by BLKD - the first rap track on the mixtape. You may have heard him doing rap battles in fliptop and also recently a full length album. One of the best albums out there for 2016.

Sabi by Bras Pas Pas Pas Pas - Next on the list is the funk band Bras Pas Pas Pas. If you don't know them, here's a taste of one of their tracks in their Greatest Hits album and experience their soulful tracks like sabi and other hits.

Spokes by Cables & Space - As stated earlier in my album review posted as well in this blog, another album and band to watch out for. Shoutout to sir John Dinopol for taking time to read my album review and commenting as well.

Eroplanong Papel by December Avenue - New mix, never gets old. The feels man, the feels.

Bawat Daan by Ebe Dancel - It's been years since he released his last solo album and this year, he found a new home and released a new album as well. Ikaw ang dulo, ang gitna't simula. Truly a cirlce of love.

Pariwara by Ely Buendia and Itchyworms - The main man from the legendary band and the band that is the heir to the throne. Supposedly an old Eraserheads track that never came into full light and release. Killer collaboration if you ask me.

Visions by Gabby Alipe - After the farewell concert of Urbandub earlier in 2016, Gabby Alipe can't help but make more music. Not sure if Urbandub is only on a hiatus status and i'm still hoping to hear from them again, Enter the solo ep entitled "A New Strain"

An acoustic laden EP which is ver different from the heavy tracks from his previous band.

Hoy by Gloc 9 - Sukli, the latest album of Gloc 9 was also released earlier this year and he's back where he came from which is Star Records. Honestly upon first hearing, i find this track quite different maybe due to the heavy autotune used on it. But as i played it more, it grew on me. Can't wait to hear more from this guy.

Dolores by Kodigo - I still can't help but ask myself why is this track not being played on the airwaves. Again, i ask why? This is one heavily induced feels track. and i ask again, why isn't this being played on the radio?

Hopeless by Mayonnaise - The last track from their latest album, this song also features kim, the lead vocalist of loop and their duet is priceless. The hidden gem of the album.

Love Supreme by MilesExperience - Another soul rock track in the list, these guys just recently released their debut album and i'd recommend you guys to get it. Why? This track alone proves that they deserve a spot on the radio playlists (alongside kodigo). Will be doing an album review on their album in the near future.

Lagi mong tatandaan by Parokya ni Edgar - First heard this track late 2015, this has been included in the latest album entitled "Pogi Years Old" Almost 20 years and they still have it.

Walang Hanggan by Quest - Met this guy personally to buy his album and to be honest, he's a really cool down to earth guy. Lot's of stories to tell and talking to him fells like you are just with your peer who is very passionate about music and life itself. If you want another feels track, then this is for you.

Wag mong aminin by Rico Blanco - Feels track for 2016. Again, from the man who brought you hits like 214, you'll be safe here and ayuz. Nuff said.

Dare by Robin Nievera - Back with anew album that is interesting the way it was released which is one track and music video per month, Dare has some groove on it just like the other tracks in the latest album.

Venus by Ron Henley - Yup i've been listening to a quite a few hiphop tracks this year and Venus is your typical love song with flows by ron done right. smooth, slow and suave.

Smilky by Sud - I'm torn between picking sila and this track from Sud as they are both awesome tracks but in the end, Smilky won. Why you ask? That epic solo right in the middle of the song makes you feel like... uhm... say... in the mood. And thus this track won me over Sila.

Pandemonium by Tanya Markova - Also reviewed earlier in my blog, this is also the hidden gem in the sophomore album of Tanya Markova. Go get their album if you haven't got a copy.

Amnesia by The Riot Act - Please please let me know where i can buy the Mono Radyo EP as this track alone from The Riot Act is promising enough for me to get 2 copies. Reminds me of at the drive in and coheed and cambria.

Never Forget by Tide / Edit - Taken from their Lightfoot album, these guys are always compared to toe. After hearing the other tracks form their latest album, T/E is way different from Toe as they have their distinct sound. Shoutout to Clarence. Sir, i'll send over the lightfoot albums back in January.

Mugatu by Tom's Story - Another local math rock band, They finally released their debut album and boy it's wild, just like their perfomances. I suggest you grab this album alongside with Tide / Edit and have it played while driving.

You can get the mixtape here.

It's password protected but i'll give it away. 2016
