Album Review: Mister Tililing by Tanya Markova

Usually sophomore albums establishes an artist in the music scene. Take the case of Circus by Eraserheads, Trip by Rivermaya, Semenelin by Wolfgang and Noon Time Show by the Itchyworms just to name a few. Basically this is a make or break part for most bands out there.

Tanya Markova's Mister Tililing

Will the sophomore release of Tanya Markova's album will also be as solid as the after mentioned bands despite being independently released? let's find out.

Hello Hello

Tililing, Tililing - The album opens up with an acoustic unplugged filler which only has the same lyrics as the title track. And we are also introduced to mister tililing. Bermuda Love Triangle - The second track talks about relationships and third parties. The opening pap-pap-para-pap-pap-para reminds me of that jingle from Mc Donalds. The favorite part of mine would be the narration

"Ang Bermuda Love triangle ay kinabibilangan ng tatlong pusong naliligaw na binubuo ng tatlong tao. Ang two timer, ang traydor at ang tanga. Ngayon, sino ka don?"

This part alone, priceless.

Hello, Hello - The carrier single of the sophomore album, it basically talks about saying hello to your love one, or anyone else you know. This is a feel good vibe song on the album.

Eskeleton - The second filler of the album. This is a slow one which bridges into the next track which is the second single of the album

Ang Darling Kong Zombie - A slow ballad song that has the late 80's vibe into it. It contains some pretty gruesome lyrics but has a touch of love song sentimental feel into it. It talks about what someone else would do for love even though the other party is well, a zombie.

B.U.N.G.O (Mag-asawang) - The third filler of the album. Taken from the melody of B.I.N.G.O but instead it spells out B.U.N.G.O.

Metal Hospital - That live concert feel when you are surrounded by crazy people. I'll classify this as a longer filler. Not my favorite track on the album but the next one definitely is my pick on the album.

Pandemonium - This is so far my favorite track off the album. Tanya's in-depth take on society. This song tells the story of the people who are trying their luck in the metro. The realities of looking for a job in the city thus, Pandemonium.

I like Iwa Motors' high pitch fills in the song. Plus that chorus, oh yeah full of passion. That bassline from start to end, the clean to distortion on effects on the guitar and that guitar solo.

This is the hidden gem of the album itself. I will not be surprised if in the near future, this will be a single as well.

Nari Tuna - Another cleverly written filler that takes a shot on the tuna commercial jingles. Big companies, hire them for commercial jingles.

High-End - This song talks about the story of a high-maintenance girl meets an average boy. This talks about the social and financial differences of these two lovers whom boy is willing to do everything just to impress the girl. From the opening synth down to the pre-chorus and till the end, another solid track from the band.

Belated Happy Birthday Song - Another filler where we are treated to well, a post birthday song. We usually sing songs on the spot for the birth celebrants. If you miss that persons' birthday, this song fits right in.

Nakatutok - Another fast track from the band that talks bout the hardships of being torpe and having a hard time to profess his/her love. Another track worth watching out.

No Eating Below The Belt - And they are back. Marlon and Angel wherein we last heard on the first album can now be heard on this filler track. Basically, they are both trying out to reverse psychology each other and fails. Well, not until the last part.

Lagalag - A chill out acoustic song from the band. Norma and Iwa's voice blends in perfectly in the chorus. A steady song fit while chilling out in the beach or just simply if you want to relax.

Mr. Tililing & Kuya Dark Contract - Another filler track. We can hear Mr. Tililing having a Q&A segment with Kuya Dark Contract. Mr. T's voice reminds me of the late Inday Badiday's voice.

E.O.W (End Of The World) - The last song track on the album. It starts out a little poppy, that is until you get on the breakdown after the solo wherein things get a little heavy, growling and the fans of taguro from ghost fighter. Oh and yeah the song talks about the possible scenarios when the world comes to an end. A bittersweet track signifying the end of the album. Or is it...

Lilaliwba - The last filler track of the album wherein Mister Tililing says goodbye to the listeners.

Final say:

The album as you may know is an independent release and to be honest, i am really surprised that the album is mixed well down to the last detail. Promise, this is a must buy album from the band.

The packaging itself despite only CDR is nicely done. At least they opted to proceed with the jewel case instead of the slipcases nowadays.

Not sure why their label dropped them but this is a solid sophomore offering from the band. Despite some tracks or fillers to me are meh ok, this is still an album to go buy out and deserves a spot in the record bars.

I'm not sure if this is an indie thing because there are less restrictions on what tracks to be included but definitely, Mister Tililing is a must buy and when i mean a must buy, i got two copies of the album on hand.

Overall, i'll give this album a solid 4.5 out of 5
